BETRAYAL OF INNOCENCE

A Harlequin Story

It is a story that began so long ago

A love story that continues yet today

God chased after Adam, He sought Eve too

It was the beginning in that Garden of Eden

He drew close toIsrael, promised them blessing

They loved Him not, though His love is perfect

Israel did not understand His desire to embrace

God chased after them but they would run the other way

He ached to hold in His arms secure

The rebellious children He was Father to

To other gods they gave their everything

Only to break the heart of Him who cherished them

If only they would stay with Him for a while

Would they not have seen or come to know

His love so great and pure unlike any other

No greater love there was, is today, or yet to come

Not content to let them flee from Him

Down He came dressed as one of their own

They accepted Him not but perhaps a few

Only a life to give so for them He gave that too

The storm outside still thunders and pours

Rivers of rain plummet from cloud and sky

Must be God?s tears that He continues to shed

Thunder His sobs for people never forgotten

The story continues even now today

It knows no ending while man yet lives

He chased after me; at last I stopped, turned around

The chase continues at this moment; why do you run?

The arms that long to encircle you

A love so pure even though you run

Stop, look about, His embrace awaits

Maybe, you might even chase after Him
